My Practice Model
1. Free Consultation
To begin, we will schedule an initial, complimentary 15-minute call to discuss your needs, goals, and next steps. If we are a good fit, I will send you access to the Patient Portal with links to the intake forms and we will schedule our first appointment. Please reference this paperwork for important practice policies.
2. Initial Evaluation
Initial evaluations are 60-90 minute appointments to ensure we can thoroughly discuss your psychiatric history, current concerns, as well as short-term and long-term treatment goals. Together we will create an individualized care plan to guide our work together.
3. Treatment Follow-up
In order to offer compassionate and collaborative care, I offer longer 25-55 minute follow-up appointments. This ensures a detailed, unrushed follow-up to effectively implement or adjust the agreed upon individualized care plan.
Limitations of my Solo Practice
As a solo practitioner without administrative or support staff, I have certain limitations in what I can offer. Individuals with the following needs may be better served in a larger practice with multiple providers, 24/7 on-call coverage, or integrated care settings that offer in-house labs, EKGs, and medical providers for seamless collaboration.
24/7 crisis management or after-hours support – I try to be as available as needed by my patients. Here is how I prefer to be contacted:
Monday-Friday 8am-5pm via patient portal.
If I am needed more urgently or outside of these days/hours I can be reached at (804) 234-4814.
I prefer to receive calls before 5pm and discourage calls after 10PM, but I will try to deal with an urgent situation at any time.
If you are unable to contact me in an urgent situation, contact the emergency room nearest you. The statewide number 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) works 24/7 for anyone in Virginia, and is an essential backup. In addition, here are local 24/7 (or around-the-clock) crisis numbers for the Richmond/central Virginia region:
Henrico Area Mental Health & Developmental Services (Henrico + Charles City + New Kent): 804-727-8484
Hanover County Community Services Board: 804-365-4200
Richmond Behavioral Health Authority (City of Richmond, Region 4): 804-819-4100
Chesterfield County Mental Health Support Services: 804-748-6356
Goochland‑Powhatan Community Services Board:
Goochland: 804-556-3716,
Powhatan: 804-598-2697
District 19 Community Services Board (Petersburg + Colonial Heights + Hopewell + surrounding counties): 804-862-8000
Detox, MAT, or acute substance use disorder management – These are best managed in specialized or higher-acuity settings.
Extensive communication outside appointments – I offer limited ongoing support beyond scheduled sessions.
Late afternoon availability – My practice generally ends by 5pm due to family responsibilities. While occasional later slots may be available, they are limited. If you require regular care after 5pm, my practice may not be the best fit.
